Homeowners who prefer not to see the indoor air handler and have at least 9 ¼" above-ceiling clearance should consider a ceiling cassette. The indoor air handler mounts flush with the ceiling so only the grille is visible. It’s a great cooling solution for rooms with drop ceilings. Each ceiling cassette has two branch ducts that can be run to adjoining rooms (you’ll need an additional fan for each branch). So even if there’s adequate clearance in only one room, a ceiling cassette can still cool and heat up to three rooms from a single system.
