May 20, 2015 Historic theater gets a cool start to summer season with Friedrich Air Conditioning donation

San Antonio, Texas (May 20, 2015) – Chicago’s Jackalope Theatre Company will finally be playing it cool this summer. Friedrich, the San Antonio manufacturer of room air conditioners, announces its donation of two Ductless Split Systems to the organization. The AC units are being installed at Jackalope’s theater within Broadway Armory Park located at 5917 North Broadway Avenue.

The theater company brings to life the American spirit by only staging productions of newly developed and established American works. The plays inspire their audience by encouraging theater goers to consider what it means to be American with its sharing of stories of diverse cultural backgrounds. A new generation of local theatre artists can partake in classes and community events.

“People loved our shows, but did not enjoy sitting through two hours in a non-air conditioned theater. This new system will allow our patrons and actors to experience our theater comfortably year-round,” said Nate Silver, managing director of the Jackalope Theatre Company.

Benefits of the Friedrich ductless line include:

  • Precision inverter technology which allows quieter cooling
  • Desired temperatures are reached more quickly. More energy efficient than traditional air conditioners
  • Maintains a much tighter temperature range to improve overall comfort
  • Easy installation where ductwork is undesirable or impractical

“We are pleased to make this donation to add to the comfort level of such a worthwhile organization that is focused on making its community a better place for both youth and adults as well as offering them an avenue to express creativity and engage in performances,” said Wink Chapman, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Friedrich Air Conditioning. “For decades, the people of Chicago have supported our company by choosing our products to cool their homes and businesses efficiently. This new system will allow patrons and actors to experience theater comfortably year-round in the historic venue.”

Built in the 1916, the structure now known as Broadway Armory Park was originally Winter Garden Ice Skating Rink. By the end of World War I, the structure was modified for use as an armory operated by the National Guard for drilling and training. In 1998, it was purchased by the Chicago Park District, making it the park district’s largest indoor recreational facility. With the help of city officials, Edgewater residents, and donors, Jackalope turned an unused military garage within the Park into a 60-seat theater.

Jackalope is the brainchild of three senior directing majors at Columbia College in Chicago. As part of a class project, they created a fictional theatrical production company. That dream became a reality in 2008, and Jackalope is now in its seventh season.

Based in the Edgewater neighborhood, Jackalope’s series of late night programming including comedy, concerts, and in-process play readings provides a safe space for residents. “This promotion of positive loitering after dark is something we will expand in the coming months with plans to increase the number of late night shows and to continue our prime-time programming in our theater within Broadway Armory Park,” added Silver. Every year Jackalope performs three full length plays and a one-act festival of new plays. The theater company is the recipient of the 2015 Broadway In Chicago Emerging Theater Award as well as four nominations for the 2014-15 non-equity Jeff Awards, which celebrate excellence in Chicago theater. Since 2008, Jackalope has produced 18 shows including 11 world premieres and served an audience of more than 12,000 as well as collaborating with over 300 artists.

June 10, 2013 Friedrich Introduces East Coast Consumers to Stylish Room Air Conditioners with Unique Features

New York City, NY (June 10, 2013) – Commercial-quality DSS and room air conditioners with easy installation and backed by the industry's only full parts and labor warranty are available at variety of retail stores on the East Coast.

As summer heats up, Friedrich is conducting product demonstrations and social media contests to invite East Coast consumers to see its newest line of stylish room air conditioners and discover how easy they are to install and operate.

Friedrich’s commercial-grade air conditioners can already be found everywhere from Texas oil rigs to upscale New York City apartments.

Demand for DSS and mini-split air conditioners, a variety of central air, has been steadily growing in the United States market but traditionally the installed cost (A/C unit + installation) has been high and warranties have been limited to parts such as compressors. Friedrich is helping consumers bring this technology into homes more cost-effectively this summer.

Breeze™ is a DSS product that can be installed at a fraction of the cost of a standard split system A/C or even by the handy homeowner (saving hundreds of dollars) and offers the industry's only full parts and labor warranty for the first year for added peace of mind. Breeze systems can be purchased and installed complete for under $2,000.

Friedrich’s newest product line includes Kühl™, an elegantly designed commercial-grade room air conditioner with attractive décor features, Wi-Fi capability to manage energy efficiency and savings and a host of other industry exclusive features. Kühl features seven-day energy management programs based on a typical five-day workweek. Custom seven-day programs can also be created to maximize comfort and energy savings around individual preferences. In addition to full programmability, Kuhl can be fully controlled through your smart phone or computer with use of the optional KWIFI kit.

“The best part,” says Michael Brief, New York Director of Sales, “is that Friedrich has maintained its footprint (cabinet size) since 1973. This means you can update your old unit as easy as sliding out the old chassis to install the new one.”

Rounding out its consumer line is the Chill™, an energy-efficient and light-weight model with many of Friedrich’s excellent features, including timer plus the MoneySaver® setting to help manage energy use and reduce costs. With capacities from 5,450 to 23,500 Btu/hour and the Auto Air Sweep feature, Chill can evenly cool a single room or a large open space. All models include a remote control.

January 01, 2012 Friedrich’s New Kühl Room Air Conditioner

San Antonio, TX (January 1, 2012) – Facility managers now have the ability to control energy consumption on a large scale even when dealing with individual room cooling units

The new 2012 Friedrich Kühl room air conditioner with optional Wi-Fi control is the first room cooling solution that can simplify building operations management and curtail energy consumption in dorms, apartments, commercial and industrial facilities.

“Kühl’s new wireless capabilities open up a whole new dimension of building energy management,” said Jane Deming, Marketing Manager for Friedrich. “Kühl is a game changer for the facility management industry.”

Facilities management personnel are now able to remotely control units including turning units on or off, adjusting set points, creating custom 7-day operating schedules and accessing operating data.

Additionally, 2012 Kühl units can be grouped and managed together for zone cooling or building-wide control. It eliminates energy waste conditioning unoccupied spaces and conserves expensive personnel resources since most unit control features can be handled remotely.

“The Kühl was developed with an open protocol design, offering connectivity to not only our own proprietary management programs, but also to other building management programs,” added Deming. This ability gives facility managers the option to control energy consumption on a large scale, even when dealing with individual room cooling units.

Kühl is the first Smart Grid enabled room air conditioner, which offers professionals additional ways to maximize energy control and savings. “Kühl is so technologically advanced, that the excitement surrounding it is palpable,” said Deming.

Kühl is a commercial grade product engineered for durability, quiet operation and energy efficiency. Kühl is constructed with robust materials like heavy-gauge galvanized steel, rifled copper tubing and high-tech aluminum fins. And, Friedrich engineers incorporate components, like fully enclosed fan motors that will extend the life of the air conditioner.

“Kühl was engineered for quiet operation,” explained Deming. “The air flow systems are tested for powerful and precise air distribution which means faster cooling when you need it most.”

Kühl’s superior filtration system absorbs odors and reduces ozone as well as other volatile organic compounds to achieve up to a MERV 6 effectiveness rating. EntryGardTM adds anti-intrusion protections and secures the unit to its sleeve.

To experience Kühl, go to Find Your Friedrich and find the model that best suits your needs.

FriedrichLink™ (coming summer 2012) is the online interface that allows control of the 2012 Kühl or Kühl+ units remotely using a computer, tablet or smartphone. FriedrichLink allows temperature adjustments, custom schedule creation, and utility function management. Requires FriedrichLink Adapter (optional accessory, sold separately; part number: KWIFI) or, use the adapter as a thumb drive to upload a customized schedule to one or many Kühl units.

Friedrich=Quality & Innovation—Friedrich has been in business since 1883 and is based in San Antonio, Texas. The company has a rich history that includes pioneering the first commercial refrigeration business. Friedrich began manufacturing room air conditioners in 1952.

“The Kühl room air conditioner means total freedom for the person on the go,” Jane Deming, Marketing Manager for Friedrich describes enthusiastically. “No more worrying about last minute schedule changes, wasted cooling or heating.”

The new Kühl is smart and elegant. It comes with built-in energy management schedules and is Smart Grid capable.

“Kühl has the ability to link into a building management system,” said Deming. “This gives facility managers the ability to control energy consumption on a large scale even when dealing with individual room cooling units. This is the first time any room air conditioner system has had this capability.”

Sleek, modern and sophisticated is how many describe Kühl. The new standard color is a stylish neutral gray. Other front panels are sold separately in six designer colors including deep red, designer white, black onyx, cobalt blue, pink diamond and classic beige.

Kühl stands out among room air conditioners for its: technology, durability, energy efficiency, health and safety.

“We use the highest grade materials such as a solid steel base pan and inner walls, 20 gauge steel cabinets, scratch-resistant paint, aluminum end plates, and a robust rear grille. Our competitors typically use less expensive materials like StyrofoamTM as their only barrier between indoor and outdoor noise,” said Deming. “Kühl’s construction makes it more durable and less prone to corrosion.”

In addition to its sleek styling, Kühl is quiet and energy efficient.

“This unit has superior filtration that can absorb odors, reduce ozone and Volatile Organic Compounds to achieve up to a MERV 6 effectiveness rating,” Deming adds. “EntryGardTM adds anti-intrusion protection and secures the unit to its sleeve.”

February 25, 2011 Friedrich PTAC Delivers Quieter Operation, Energy Management Features, Plus Simplified Installation and Maintenance

San Antonio, TX (February 25, 2011) – Today’s buying decisions are more difficult than ever, especially for purchasing agents, procurement officers and facilities managers. Limited budgets and heavy workloads demand finding reliable solutions when selecting products—like packaged terminal air conditioners (PTACs)—that are vital for their facilities.

Friedrich Air Conditioning, a leading room air conditioner manufacturer for more than six decades, is proud to introduce a completely re-engineered PTAC for 2011. Frequently used in lodging, senior care, dormitories, military housing and some residential applications, PTACs are 42-inch-wide, through-the-wall air conditioners and heat pumps.

Because PTACs can be up to 50 percent shallower than other through-the-wall solutions, they install flush with exterior walls and use little interior floor space. And, the slide-out chassis design has maintenance benefits for facilities managers who need to keep rooms comfortable for their occupants. Replacement units can be installed and operating in as few as 10 to 15 minutes. No technical expertise is necessary.

“This new PTAC is a direct result of customer feedback. We listened to their needs and focused our attention on delivering quiet operation, excellent air distribution, cost-saving energy management features and simplified installation and maintenance to reduce the burden on facility staff,” explained Chuck Campbell, Friedrich’s vice president of marketing and sales.

Completely redesigned and re-engineered, this Friedrich PTAC also hits the mark with a feature set that delivers reliable operation and superior comfort.

November 29, 2010 Friedrich Air Conditioning Moves Headquarters to Union Square II

San Antonio, TX (November 29, 2010) – Friedrich Air Conditioning has moved its headquarters into 22,000 square feet of space at the Union Square II Building at 10001 Reunion Place after almost 40 years at 4200 Pan Am Expressway.

The move included about 90 employees engaged in management, accounting, marketing and sales, product management, engineering, information systems, credit, customer service, human resources and production management.

In addition to the building’s light-filled space, a new open floor plan facilitates better communication. Closer proximity to San Antonio International Airport was another factor in the move, making visits to Friedrich’s headquarters much easier for customers and vendors.

"This new space at Union Square II allows us to consolidate our staff onto a single floor," said George Van Hoomissen, CEO.

"It is modern and open with design details that reflect our core business. For example, copper air conditioning coil was used as a design element of the reception desk while employee work stations feature cabinets with a side that emulates the outside grille of our window air conditioners," Van Hoomissen continued.

"So far, we’ve received excellent feedback from our employees and visitors," he concluded.

Since its founding in 1883, Friedrich Air Conditioning Co. has had one manufacturing standard—quality without compromise. A partner in the ENERGY STAR® program, Friedrich manufactures commercial and residential grade room cooling solutions including room air conditioners, single package vertical units, packaged terminal air conditioners, through-the-wall air conditioners, ductless split systems, hazardous location units, portable air conditioners and dehumidifiers. The company continues to develop innovative solutions for cooling and heating needs, including the new Kühl and Kühl + room air conditioners introduced in 2010.
